<span id="ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_lblDescription">"Tucked away between I-71
& US-62 lies nestled the quaint, speed trap hamlet of Harrisburg,
Ohio. With its humble ambience, affable familiarity, weekend fish fries
and Christian B&B ('mind the sherry, brother, for it is the Lords
nectar'), blink twice and you might think you've been transported into a
21st century Winesburg, Ohio. Only now the emphasis is on a new
chapter, 'The songsmith-concerning <b>Tommy Jay</b>'. In a converted
barn just off Main St, Jay and friends have been forging a massive
catalog of music, both original and cover variations, for a solid four
decades. Fellow towns-person and erstwhile participant, one <b>Mike 'Rep' Hummel</b>
(Serpent Mound expert, croquet enthusiast) was the first to make these
recordings available when he issued a cassette of the proceedings under
the title, <u>Tommy Jay's Tall Tales Of Trauma</u> via his homespun DIY
label, Old Age/No Age, in 1986. For anyone prescient enough to lock in
back then, they were staggered by talent, far removed from the stars of
High Street (<b>Great Plains</b>, <b>Gibson Bros</b>, <b>Willie Phoenix</b>). A singer/songwriter par excellence, Tommy Jay ably forged a hybrid of pre-speedball <b>Stephen Stills</b> with post Iron Cross-headed <b>Lou Reed</b>, the results of which come across as both effortless and visionary. Some 20 years later, <u>Tall Tales</u>
would finally receive it's long deserved elevation to the vinyl format
(this time through Columbus Discount Records), and was now being heard
by a new generation of ears, garnered immediate success, quickly sold
out and inexplicably was never repressed. In the intervening limbo,
copies were more sought than found, lucky bumpkins forking upwards to
three figures for pride of ownership. Recently, Assophon, a US label
with <b>Jim Rockford</b>-like determination, swooped in to un-fuck this
glaring wart. Plus, time and patience being the powerful warriors they
are, the new, expanded edition is brimming with a whole second platter
of hoot; 13 unreleased tracks what's rarely been discerned this side of
Tony's Coney's. Which all goes to say that the new and improved, 30th
anniversary edition of <u>Tommy Jay's Tall Tales Of Trauma</u> is, to paraphrase the words of the late, great <b>Randy Poffo</b>, 'The record the whole world, Jupiter, Saturn, Venus... Or anywhere else is waiting for'." --<b>Tom Lax- siltbreeze</b></span><br />

<span id="ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_gvSearchResult_ctl02_lblTx_Desc"><b>Eddy Detroit</b>
returns with a brand-new LP! The legend refuses to diminish. Eddy
Detroit crafts eight new songs full of his trademark twisted folk,
satanic Americana, and trance voodoo magic. This album ventures into the
deranged psychosis of the Phoenix AZ characters that inhibit Eddy's
world. Multiple-personality girlfriends, twisted and rouge
hanger-goners, and life as a street musician in the infernal Arizona
summer heat. Another cast of local musicians are on board for this
record that features cello, ocean drum, piano, guitar, bongos, and
violin. This is all capped off by the B-side, a deep, trance-inducing
descent into <b>Dante</b>'s <u>Inferno</u> that features <b>Alan Bishop</b> (<b>Sun City Girls</b>) on vocals, <b>Dan Clark</b> (<b>Victory Acres</b>/<b>Feederz</b>)
on synthesizer, and Eddy Detroit on bongos -- overlaid with a recording
of Eddy Detroit waxing on about his extraordinary life. "Toe Sucker
Beach" is meant as an homage to <b>The Velvet Underground</b>'s "The
Gift" -- a track that can be listened to as a whole or as a hard pan,
with the demented instrumental in one channel and Eddy's reminiscences
in the other channel. This record is another swan dive into the
brilliant mind of one of the most original outsider musicians out there.
Limited edition of 400. Released to coincide with Eddy's Detroit's
first European tour in the fall of 2016.</span></div>

<span id="ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_gvRecBestSeller_ctl06_lblTx_Desc">Where to start with <b>Eddy Detroit</b>? Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, it was there, in 1966, that he was in attendance for the first <b>Iguanas</b> gigs (<b>Iggy Stooge</b>'s first band). He joined the White Panther party in Detroit and was "there" for the pre-punk sounds of <b>The Stooges</b> and <b>MC5</b>
("We all smoked dope on the state Capitol and got beat up by the
cops"). In the early '70s he traveled to London, where he stalked <b>Marc Bolan</b> and tried to seduce <b>Tony Visconti</b>'s then-girlfriend <b>Mary Hopkin</b>. It was with Ms. Hopkin, when he was dropping off a demo tape at the Apple Records, that he witnessed the moment when <b>Ringo</b> found out that <b>The Beatles</b> had broken up! (We've got the pictures to prove it!) In the mid-'70s, Detroit settled in Hollywood and started <b>The Terminal Wave Band</b>
(bongo/synth/punk) which was the soundtrack to the
hippy/biker/S&M/satanic/polyamorous scene that Detroit ruled in
dingy, underground LA -- that's when he wasn't trying to seduce <b>Nico</b> (<b>The Velvet Underground</b>)
to become one of his muses and lovers ("True story bub"). When rents in
LA got too much for an acid-fried biker/S&M/punk, Eddy moved to
Phoenix, AZ, and was seminal in fostering one of the most interesting
underground musical scenes of the early '80s. He was an unofficial
member of the <b>Sun City Girls</b>, toured with the <b>Meat Puppets</b> and <b>Mighty Sphincter</b>,
and was the pith-helmeted shaman-in-residence at his club The Grotto!
This LP contains recordings made from 1979 to 2010. They run the gamut
of Detroit's musical landscape, from the UK acid-folk of <b>Tyrannosaurus Rex</b> and <b>The Incredible String Band</b>
through bongo-fueled satanic calypso to his new phase as a troubadour
recounting tales of hobos, whores, and one-eyed jacks from the old west.

Double LPs tend to make quite the statement. The proof is in the pudding, as they say. Just listen to classics like <i>Trout Mask Replica</i>, <i>Double Nickles On The Dime</i>, <i>Lake</i>, <i>Twin Infinitives</i>, <i>Harsh 70's Reality</i>....well, <b>Factums</b> have thrown their hat into the proverbial ring with <i>Gilding The Lilies</i>. This mythic release has been rumored and debated for some time and to say this is their crowing achievement is an understatement. Factums have been shrouded in mystery, rarely playing live -- this hermetic Seattle/Chicago combo have been releasing rustic/futuristic artifacts for a variety of labels over the last few years. On <i>Gilding The Lilies</i>, all the ideas come together: sci-fi surf rock, post-apocalyptic murder ballads, musique concrète anthems, hell, on <i>Gilding The Lilies</i> they even dedicate the latter half of this masterpiece to Far Eastern exotica and incorporate sitars and tablas. Yeah, this ain't no <b>Beatles</b> trip, it's a Factums take on their inner chakra or pith helmet exploitation or whatever the kids are calling it these days. Eddy Detroit-<span style="font-style: italic;"> Immortal God's </span>LP<br />
<br />
Eddy Detroit is an underground legend. He was a key fixture in the fertile Phoenix AZ scene of the early 80s (that included such luminaries as the Meat Puppets, Sun City Girls, Maybe Mental, Feederz, JFA etc...) Immortal God’s was the first release on his Pan Records label ( his 2nd LP, Philosopher’s Journey would be the only other). Both records were privately released in miniscule editions , are now and have been rather difficult to obtain for many years, ensuring them as holy grails for collectors of the exotic, cult, folk, beat, punk, outsider rock musical canon....Immortal Gods was recorded and released in 1982. It features Alan Bishop and Charles Gocher (Sun City Girls), Dan and Mary Clark (Feederz/Victory Acres), Jesse Srgoncik (aka James Verlaine aka J. Akkari from Paris 1942... a band that featured the Velvet Underground’s drummer Moe Tucker as well as Rick and Alan Bishop), and Brandon and Audrey Curtis backing Eddy and his African, voodoo, Hitchcock musical vision. It is a timeless masterpiece. The LP Jacket cover is quite possibly the apex in outsider photography and demented vision. It features Eddy and a lady friend (a woman he picked up for the cover shot because she had the bone structure he was looking for) on horseback with Eddy holding his head in his outstretched hand. A perfect image for the music contained within. Assophon Records is proud to present this album in its original format for the current generation to tango with.<br />

There are inspired covers of material like “It’s A Rainy Day” by Faust and Albert Ayler’s “Ghosts” (which wins out over countless lame indie free jazz versions by re-staging it as a melancholy avant rock dirge as played by Don Van Vliet and the Maher Shalal Has Baz orchestra) and the more rocking sections are a near perfect amalgam of primitive avant brut, stumble punk oblivion and beautiful melodic chord solos. Jeffery Taylor and Dave Abramson are key players in the ever incestuous Seattle subunderground musical community. Taylor is one half of Climax Golden Twins and Abramson leads the Diminished Men. The Factums have crafted a soundtrack to this dark and mysterious place. A world where the listener is the prey and this record is the hunter. A Primitive Future is intended as a soundtrack to an imaginary movie and it’s a totally beguiling and mysterious spin. The sound is dense, claustrophobic, Xeroxed rock, taking the more extended strategies of the weirdest Dead C sides and compacting them into blunt riffs and sunken vox that feel like some of the most primordial, defiantly monochrome psychedelia this side of nowhere. There are a bunch of long tracks, all convincing monosyllabic traverses of the nowhere zone, cut up with shorter tracks that use amp-huzz, keyboard bleeps, pinging strings and percussion to generate minimal, almost Sun Ra-styled, instrumental fantasias but the whole thing is so oblique, so perfectly unto itself, that it’s hard to find any truly accurate comparisons outside of suggesting that if you dig the sound of the 90s underground and you like it as distended and alien as all hell then this is the kind of environment you’ll enjoy sinking to the bottom of. A weird-ass one for sure and recommended." David Keenan</span></span><br /><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);font-size:78%;" ><br /></span>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2
